Happy New Year!
From John Schuch
|
Hi, my name is John Schuch and here's a little bit about me:
My story is about a lifelong love affair with music...every conceivable style and genre. From my first exposure to rock 'n' roll, I've gone on to explore jazz, blues, classical, country, electronica and dance, and indigenous music from scores of countries all over the world.
After spending a few years in broadcasting, I knew that I had to become involved in the process of delivering some of this great music to the world.
My journey has afforded me the privilege of working with and for some of the most illustrious and notorious names in the music business (Sub Pop Records, Sony Music, Warner Bros. Records, MCA Records, The Jesus and Mary Chain, etc.) And it's definitely been a labor of love.
In the early 90s I discovered the Internet and immediately understood that the music business was going to be changed forever and the fans were going to benefit greatly. So when I left my last label gig as COO of Sub Pop Records, I jumped into the digital music space for the wildest three year ride of my life.
Here's an interview MP3.com conducted with me just before I made the jump.

During this period I handled content acquisition and music industry relations for LicenseMusic.com and Gracenote (formerly CDDB).
You can learn a lot more about my story and some of the things I've done by reading my resume.
I'm now out of the corporate scene for the first time in a while and am giving back to the community by teaching courses in the music industry at the University of Memphis, and by lending my expertise to provide solutions for problems that come up in the process of creating music (or any other type of popular entertainment); distributing, marketing or promoting it; or trying to build new business ventures around it. My services are designed for musicians, singers, record labels, entertainment content providers, as well as for those looking to use music on Web sites or in films, television shows, video games, etc. I can help to figure out the steps needed to be successful and avoid expensive litigation.
I can also help put business plans together and assist clients with getting their message across.
Finally, having entered the field of music industry education, I'm always interested in writing pieces on relevant music industry issues. My article, Protecting Celebrities' Rights in Internet Domain Names, was published on the front page of Entertainment Law & Finance! More articles and personal appearances are coming. I hope to meet many of you to exchange stories and opportunities with each other.
